Givens Aldersgate inaugural “Shake, Shimmy, and Survive” Breast Cancer Awareness Zumba Celebration brought a strong turnout of participants together to share survivor stories, offer encouragement and raised more than $200 for a local breast cancer support group in Charlotte.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to encourage informed health decisions, support those affected by breast cancer and recognize the importance of early detection. According to the National Cancer Institute, mammograms can help find breast cancer before symptoms develop.
The celebration combined Zumba – a high-energy, dance-based fitness with Latin-inspired rhythms – with opportunities to share information about breast cancer and messages of support. Participants’ personal stories highlighted survivorship and the importance of community connection. Pink is the symbolic color of breast cancer awareness and symbolizes hope and support and honors the memory of those lost to the disease.
Organizers thank everyone who donated and participated, and congratulations to raffle winners Anne Olsen, Flora Chance and Cheri Furr.
