Leading Age Internship Returns to Givens for Third Year
Givens Communities is again participating in the LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Internship Program with Katherine “Kate” Atwell joining team members at Givens Estates.
The LeadingAge program, now in its third year with Givens Communities, is a 10-week immersive internship with a diverse pool of undergraduate and graduate students gaining real world experience in aging services.
Atwell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the College of Wooster in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she began working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a long-term care facility and discovered a passion for providing patient care in a senior living setting.
Atwell said she is passionate about working with older adults and is excited about her summer internship at Givens Estates, where she can learn about the many different types of nursing services. In particular, she said she is interested in transitional care, support, and affordability of care.
Atwell’s goal is to be a nurse leader and patient advocate. She recently was accepted into a bachelor’s program to become a Registered Nurse and will begin that program in the fall semester. She already has been studying the model of long-term care and the sustainability of current operations.
