Addressing The Affordable Senior Housing Gap

Teresa Stephens, Vice President of Givens Affordable Communities, is a guest speaker for a LeadingAge discussion on affordable senior housing on Feb. 20.

LeadingAge serves as a catalyst and partner and connector to solve problems and create new opportunities to better serve an aging America, with membership of over 5,400 nonprofit aging services providers and other mission-driven organizations serving older adults in states across the country.

As the demand for affordable housing for older adults grows amid shifting demographics, mission-driven organizations have an opportunity to deepen their impact by addressing this critical need.

By incorporating affordable housing into strategic initiatives, aging services providers can bolster economic growth, increase access to affordable homes, and support older adults in the community—opportunities like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit provide a unique pathway to turn this vision into reality.

A growing number of low-income older adults are in need of affordable housing – in fact, there is currently a shortage of more than 7 million affordable and available rental homes. Addressing this critical need offers mission-driven organizations, including life plan communities, a unique opportunity to deepen their impact while enhancing their strategy to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving aging services landscape.
