Spiritual Care
Spiritual Care
Givens’ spiritual care department supports multifaith and ecumenical worship and opportunities for growth on all four campuses and expands into the larger community.
Givens respects all residents’ and staff members’ beliefs and spiritual journeys and offers non-judgemental support. Givens supports the spiritual needs of residents, including those at home, in the hospital, or in other enhanced care settings by providing meaningful support to people across faiths who are affected by stress, loss, and death. Our chaplains lead worship and various workshops and are available to counsel and assist families in planning for memorial or celebration services.
Givens Resident Ben Brown states, “The Spiritual Life Committee is at the heart of spiritual wellness at Givens. Its mission is to nurture wellness through interfaith worship, prayer, meditation, education, and service. Working closely with chaplains Brenda Lewis and Kelli Mullinix, the committee supports pathways for spiritual growth — from Sunday Vespers and Shabbat Services to quiet meditation and walking the labyrinth.
All traditions and all backgrounds are welcome. Music is central to spiritual life, with groups like the Chapel Chimers, Givens Estates Choir, Dulcet Tones, and Sharps & Flats. Many residents share their gifts by leading vespers, playing instruments, or guiding labyrinth walks, enriching the whole community.Beyond services, programs include ice cream socials, guest speakers, the Spring Music Festival, and the blessing of quilts and shawls. Looking ahead, the Committee is addressing the spiritual dimensions of loneliness, grief, anxiety, and depression by building partnerships across campus, reminding us that spiritual life includes both joy and comfort in times of struggle.
